The extended rapid test for piglet diarrhea

For the easy, hygienic and parallel on-site detection of Rotavirus, Clostridium perfringens,  Cryptosporidium and Alpha-toxin in feces of piglets.

Diarrhoeal diseases pose a major problem  in piglet rearing, it comes both to economic losses through the  increased use of medication, as well as losses due to reduced weight gains of the animals during the fattening period (stunted growth). The increased use of medication always involves the risk of emergence of resistant germs.

Diarrhea is a symptom, the causes may be many. It must be distinguished between non-infectious factors e.g. due to food changes, lack of stable hygiene, stress factors, such as overcrowding, Vaccination management of the sows, colostrum quality and supply, and infectious factors by specific diarrheal pathogens or new animals in a herd which are subclinical carrier.

One of the main causative agents of piglet diarrhea include rotavirus, and Clostridium perfringens. Cryptosporidium parvum is also pathogenic for the pig, especially in relation with a secondary infection. There are both single and mixed infections with varying severity degrees of the course of illness. Alpha-toxin also is one of the most frequently occurring Clostridium toxins in piglets and it is also an indicator for the severity of an infection.

Solely on the basis of clinical symptoms it is hardly possible to exactly distinction the present diarrheal pathogens.
